The Apple Pips
Eight singers, as well as practising with the main choir on Monday evenings,
meet at Pam's home most Thursday evenings to practise a completely different
repertoire. This small group, known as the Apple Pips, are an integral part of the Appledore
Singers and perform to complement a whole choir's evening performances. They
comprise of 1st & 2nd Sopranos and Alto voices. Pam also joins with the group to
sing their 'barbershop style' numbers.

The Group enjoys the intimacy of a smaller group and practices are usually fun
sessions as well as getting to know the pieces well enough to perform at
concerts. With less numbers than the main choir, it enables the music to be
learnt more quickly. Performances can involve the use of 'props' - anything from Canes and Straw
Boaters for 'Puttin' on the Ritz' to second-hand items of clothing and curly
wigs for 'Second-hand Rose'.
The Pips perform both accompanied and unaccompanied pieces at both fast and slow
paces. On the accompanied side we have for example - 'Swing low, Sweet Chariot'
and 'Skylark' and our barbershop style brings us 'Under the Boardwalk' and 'Wait
till the sun shines Nellie'.

Christmas brings a wonderful selection of songs with some real fun numbers (such
as 'Santa Claus is coming to town' - Pam's favourite) and more traditional
melodies ('How far is it to Bethlehem'.)
Recent additions to the Pips are Chris Beechey and Anthony Chambers whose male
voices add a different dimension to our sound.
